We visited our middle school
buddies for the first time. We read Stellaluna and then created our own bats to
make them fly. We attached the bat to a straw and a piece of plastic and then
blew in the straw to see how far it would fly. Then we made modifications to our
bat by folding the wings a little to see if it would affect the distance. Some learners
made the prediction that it would go farther. Then we tried it with thicker
straws to see if that would help the bat go farther and indeed it did! Learners
made connections that the more air that is blowing would make the bat go higher
or farther. They really enjoyed themselves!
